Slow U: Oyster & Beer Pairing

In the famous back room at “Jimmy’s,” join Karen Rivara,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fboSiC238r8, celebrity oyster farmer and founder of the Noank Oyster Cooperative, and our host, Jimmy Carbone, proprietor of Jimmy’s No. 43 and the creator of the Good Beer Seal, http://goodbeerseal.com/, for an evening of Karen’s local oysters on the half shell and Jimmy’s specially selected beer. In a casual setting, Karen will shuck your oysters and tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Crassostrea virginica, our native, east coast oyster, while Jimmy provides the sudsy liquid cheer. The cost of the ticket includes your first half dozen oysters and your first beer. Cash oyster and beer bars will be open thereafter and Jimmy’s regular menu will be available, including an oyster surprise or two. Proceeds from this event will support the programs of not-for-profit Slow Food NYC, including the Urban Harvest program of good food education for NYC kids. Urban Harvest supports programs in 11 schools, in the South Bronx, East Harlem, on the Lower East Side, and in Brooklyn and at a summer urban farm in East New York. More than a thousand Urban Harvest kids learn about the importance of good, clean, and fair food to their health and well-being, the health of their families and communities, and the health of the planet.
